Kawasaki KZ400 Mikuni Carburettor Upgrade

What options do you have when the original carburettors on your beloved classic motorcycle and not fit for repair and parts are no longer available

This incredible condition and original 1975 US import Kawasaki KZ400 twin was brought in to us for complete recommissioning. Unfortunately, the stock Keihin CV carbs had seen better days, with torn diaphragms and worn out jets and o-rings.

It was too difficult to locate the correct parts to rebuild them. After a conversation with the owner, we agreed on replacing them with a new pair of Mikuni VM30 slide carburettors. We bought the full kit from SpeedMotoCo in the US, which included cables, air filters and additional jets.

They were quick to fit and, with some minor tuning, we were able to get the motorcycle performing perfectly and back on the road after several years sat dormant.
