Who is Born To Roll?

We are Scott McDougall and Miles Willis.

We first started work together at Unit 7 in 2017 for John Piper at Piper Special Vehicles Ltd. We both worked closely under John, a designer and engineer with an illustrious career working for Williams and Benetton Formula One teams, Prodrive and Jaguar. Whilst working at PSV, we experienced a wide range of engineering projects.

In 2023, when John retired from Piper Special Vehicles, we made the decision to continue working together from the same premises, but under a new name… Born To Roll.

But it’s not just a job, as we are both self-confessed petrolheads, enthusiastic about anything on either four or two wheels. In our spare time you could easily find us working on one of our many car or motorcycle projects.

We love all types of historic vehicles and are at home working on a range of classic car and motorcycle makes and marques whether British, European or Japanese, original heritage, custom or race-ready.

Having spent several years creating custom-built, made-to-order classic cars for various clients, there’s not much we haven’t done. We love all aspects of a restoration, from bodywork repairs and modifications to mechanical and electrical upgrades.

We cover Bristol and the surrounding areas, but our customers come from all over the South-West including Somerset, Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, South Wales and Oxfordshire. We use a professional car transportation company so have had customers as far as Kent.

Our unit is secure and we always maintain a clean and orderly working environment. We take pride in the service we provide and we take seriously the responsibility we have whilst your cherished car or motorcycle is in our care.

If you have a project idea, no matter how small or complex, we’d love to hear from you!

  • All our charges are dependent on the amount of work required and the amount of time we need to book the space to accomplish that work.

For the smaller jobs our hourly rate is £72.

If you require a lot of work, then we charge £250 for a half day or £500 for a full day.

Full restorations are calculated on an individual basis.

  • The method of invoicing is always something we agree own before work commences. We are always to happy to try and work towards a specific budget or be as flexible as we can with invoicing. Sometimes this means splitting the work into different ‘phases’ that allow us to prioritise the work in a logical order and spread the cost out over a longer period. We also prefer to invoice regularly for larger jobs and restorations, to help spread the costs and manage the budget better.

  • Most of our customers are not able to get their vehicle to us, either because they are not running or they do not live locally. Do not worry, as we can arrange this for you.

For cars we use a professional transportation service to collect and deliver your car to us in a safe and respectful manner. We can arrange this at a time that will suit you. The cost for this service will be dependent on distance.

For motorcycles, we can arrange the hire of a van so that one of our team can come in person to collect your motorcycle from you. We can also arrange it to be returned in the same manner. The cost for this service is approx £20 an hour to collect and deliver the motorcycle from your address to our unit in Bedminster, Bristol.

  • Once your vehicle is with us, we can perform a thorough inspection. This will allow us to give you a more detailed list of work we would recommend, which we could then prioritise as essential or desirable based on your budget.

From this list of work we are then able to create as accurate estimate as we can. This can be discussed and the list of jobs can be amended where necessary into a clear Scope Of Work.

  • Good communication is very important to us, especially whilst we are working on your vehicle. We will always try to send you photo updates of all the work carried out as it happens, either via Whatsapp or email. It is important that you are always kept up-to-date, and if we find any deviations from the agreed work, we do not proceed until we have discussed and agreed on the options with you first.
